Progress in Developing a Rare Earth Elements Industry in Canada - Workshop Dec 2018

7/29/2019

A day and a half workshop “Progress in Developing a Rare Earth Elements Industry in Canada” was held at École Polytechnique in Montreal on December 10 and 11, 2018.  While the playing field for REE has changed significantly in the last few years, there remains a strong complement of industry and R&D organizations working to solve REE constraints in Canada.  The goal of the workshop was to bring together active players in Canada’s REE space to discuss progress over the last several years in advancing the development of a Canadian REE industry, to identify continuing barriers to development and to develop further opportunities for collaboration.

The topics discussed at the workshop include: REE outlook and market implications to Canada, Canadian industry updates and international activities; and R&D activities being undertaken in Canada and how they are contributing to the advancement of Canada’s REE industry.  A breakout session at the end of the workshop was utilized to gather feedback and to establish priority technical gaps in order to shape future R&D programs for Canada.

Over 50 participants from across the industry attended the workshop, including a few that connected via WebEx.  The full workshop report including all the presentations is now available in the Technical Workshop Report folder under the R&D tab.
